The Real Fight for Truth: Why The Public Don’t Trust The BBC’s Propaganda

“Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” – Ephesians 5:11

This article is about a 9-minute read.

The BBC’s self-righteous “Fight for Truth” advertising campaign launched last year, declaring: “We pursue the truth, so disinformation has nowhere to hide.”

Yet, the reality behind the BBC’s carefully manufactured and manicured image shows us that the BBC themselves are the producer of disinformation!

The BBC wants the public to see it as a fearless bastion of truth: the institution that identifies deception, verifies facts and protects citizens from the dangerous propaganda of nefarious forces.

Watch this self-promoting BBC propaganda video… then see what happens when the BBC’s words about everyone else are applied to itself.

Truth is not a slogan, a cinematic advert or a brand identity. Truth is the unbreakable, immutable reality that no human being or organisation can ever defeat.

And this is the BBC’s problem:

It cannot talk deceit to get out of a situation it has provably acted itself into.

The official record is not ambiguous. Here’s just a selection:

2012 — Lord McAlpine falsely implicated in child abuse by the BBC: A Newsnight report led the public to identify Lord McAlpine as an alleged child abuser without the BBC first contacting him. The allegation was false.

2014–18 — The televised police raid on Sir Cliff Richard’s home: The BBC broadcast extensive live coverage, including helicopter footage, of a police search while Richard was abroad. He was never arrested or charged. The High Court ruled that the BBC had unlawfully infringed his privacy and awarded millions of pounds of damages.

2021 — Martin Bashir’s deception and the Diana interview: Lord Dyson found that Bashir used fabricated bank statements and false claims to deceive Earl Spencer into arranging access to Diana, Princess of Wales. This is a criminal act and yet Bashir has yet to be held criminally accountable.

2023 — False reporting about Nigel Farage’s Coutts account: The BBC reported that Farage’s bank account had been closed because he no longer met Coutts’ financial requirements. Documents later showed that his political views had been extensively discussed and were the primary reason for his account being closed.

2023 — “A Very British Cult” hit piece: A 5-hour defamatory TV programme and podcast series about Lighthouse Global with over 143 provable falsehoods. The BBC has refused countless offers of evidence, denying the full right to reply with the same reach to all slanderous claims made.

2025 — Gaza documentary materially misled viewers: The BBC documentary Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone did not disclose that its 13-year-old narrator was the son of a Hamas government official. Ofcom found that the programme breached rules prohibiting factual programmes from misleading audiences.

2025 — Donald Trump’s speech spliced into a misleading sequence: A Panorama programme joined remarks made more than 50 minutes apart in Trump’s 6 January speech, giving the impression of a continuous call for violent action while omitting his reference to protesting peacefully.

2025 — BBC trans coverage ‘censored’ by its own reporters: The BBC’s trans coverage is subject to “effective censorship” by specialist LGBT reporters who refuse to cover gender-critical stories.

The public can see the contradiction. Beneath the BBC’s own “The fight for truth is on” advert, viewers responded:

“This has to be one of the most hypocritical videos to ever exist. This is a level of hypocrisy on the level of the Pharisees”

“I know. They’re the masters of misinformation and propaganda. Probably why they made the ad. Desperate to try and conceal their nature.”

“Who verifies the verifiers?”

“I honestly can’t believe the BBC had the cheek to make this video. Shocking.”

“”Trust is earned” indeed, and you have none of it.”

Those comments do not prove the BBC’s misconduct; the official record does.

But they reveal something the BBC cannot repair through glossy PR: a profound collapse of public trust.

Such that a collapse that YouGov polls show how the public has gone from 81% trusting BBC journalists to tell the truth in 2003 to 38% in 2023.

Another poll last year revealed that 75% of people say they can’t trust the BBC.

When licence fee payment is compelled by law, accountability on the BBC must be greater—not less.

For all citizens, no institution entrusted with public money and public influence should be permitted to investigate everyone except itself.

It’s not necessarily the case that every BBC journalist is dishonest or that every BBC programme is unreliable.

The conclusion is more serious: the BBC’s reputation for truth cannot be accepted as proof of truth.

Its claims must be tested against the facts, the evidence and the truth.

Refuse to be passive. Watch the evidence. Correct the record.

A really powerful article, thank you. It cuts right to the root of the BBC and those stats of public trust are incredibly telling. The fact there is still a forced licence fee is an abomination. It is no wonder the public are revolting in that regard. Thank you for sharing on the BBC class-action and the efforts we are going to, everyone ought to sign up who doesn’t agree with the licence fee and is tired of being lied to!

Thank you and God bless.

Reading through the list of proven lies and falsehoods committed by the BBC definitely shows a picture that is very different from what the BBC wants us to believe through all its propaganda. Looking at the low level of public trust in the BBC makes it clear that it cannot hide its deceptions anymore and that real change is needed.

I’m looking forward to the class action against the BBC and to ensuring that those who had to suffer under its tyranny will see justice.

Watching that video, the commercial for the BBC, wow, is just full of lies. But why should they start telling the truth now? They’ve lied for years, why change a habit of a lifetime.

Thank you for sharing the list of proven lies, reading through them, it’s no wonder they have lost so much of the public’s trust.

Thank you for sharing more on the case against the BBC, especially in relation to the children (now adults) who have been emotionally affected by those within the BBC

Thank you for an insightful article…

There is no longer a need for the TV licence fee. We have the infrastructure now, the TV Tax must now end.
If the BBC are that good at what they do, then people will pay for it through a subscription.
But they wont do that will they.

Why?
Because there is no trust in what broadcast, because they have lied to the public, cheated them and committed heinous sexual and sordid crimes against too many members of the public that they claim to ‘so proudly’ serve.
EVERYONE has had enough of them now.

So what’s left?
Abolish the BBC, if it won’t reform though it’s own choice.

The fact that this is just a handful of examples, is extremely disturbing. The names listed here are not just names, they and we are human beings and the devastation the BBC have caused, is insurmountable.
Their propaganda, their MO, their disregard for truth, is a scourge that we will continue to hold accountable, they must repent and reform or close down so they can cause no further harm.

If the public knew even the fraction that has been shared on these websites like Citizen Intervention Global and Citizen BBC Verify, I have no doubt that trust in news and specifically in the BBC would be drastically lower. They’ve only seen a tiny morsel of the truth. The fact that Marianna Spring can literally lie on her CV and still be kept in a job that is all about verifying fact from fiction is a sick joke. It’s as if they’re laughing in the British public’s face to wind them up and mock while the at the BBC carry on arrogantly abusing their position.

History and evidence shows however that anything built on lies and falsehoods always comes to its own demise.

It’s quite something when the BBC’s own words are used to describe themselves. The hypocrisy and the double-standards are for all to see. The comments from the public on an advert designed to promote themselves and their work are damning!

If the TV licence fee was ditched, then the BBC would collapse almost overnight. It can’t sustain itself because it’s both no longer relevant and it’s been lying to the public for decades.

The experience of watching and analysing A Very British Cult completely shattered my perception of the BBC. Now we have a responsibility and a duty to inform the public, especially the Body of Christ, about the deception and the abuse perpetrated by the BBC and their staff.

What a powerful article to show this truly is propaganda and they are spouting absolute nonsense. Even Marianna Spring, the fact checker who lied of her CV and is 100% just an establishment puppet figure in my view just screams that they aren’t advocating for the truth, they want to tell you what the truth is, THEIR truth.
That sharp decline of trust in 20 years was really eye opening. I suspect it has declined even more since 2023.

Great video, showing the BBC for who they really are. I say this a lot but the BBC really are the biggest and worst, most diabolical gaslighters in the world. The bare faced impudence and entitlement they display to carry on acting as they do, trying to parade as angels of light with the most dark, sordid and abhorrent history that they have, is quite something.

This is one of the most blatant and false advertising campaigns I’ve ever seen. The BBC continually try to use false statistics by using old tag lines lines “most trusted news source” – very few people trust them and those that do are the older generations that grew up with them and they didn’t have an alternative.

So bad! There’s no integrity in the BBC. What they are leaning on is branding and showy perception, it’s propaganda. The things they cover up or omit about themselves are damning.
No way are they a trusted source now. Too many times they’ve been underhanded.

Wow. A shift from over 80% trust to as low as 25% in just over 20 years, that’s quite the achievement of the BBC. I think what we need to consider in that same time period is the massive expansion of independent citizen journalism and citizen produced media content via social media platforms, including the likes of YouTube, within that same time period. In other words people are now able to receive information from truly independent and scrutinous sources, not just those run by Establishment corporations. Because of this the public now have access to information, opinions and insights that the traditional mainstream media would have withheld from them in the past. So the question is, have the BBC only just become as dishonest and manipulative and deceiving as they are now, or have they always been and we just didn’t know about it? Maybe, with the same levels of independent non corporate reporting and opinion sharing in 2003, that 80% would have been as low as it is today. I severely doubt they have become this corrupt and this decrepit as thoroughly as they have been in just 2 decades. What makes it worse is that they’re now looking to force the BBC on us, both by making it funded through taxation and forcing social media platforms to favour them in their algorithms.

This article explains very clearly the reality that the BBC are trying to run from.
The public doesn’t want to pay for government propaganda.
It’s time to privatise the BBC like the government has done with so many other assets like, telecoms, water, rail and energy.
