Militant Ignorance: The BBC’s Refusal to Face Truth and Accountability

A Statement by Paul S. Waugh – Why Lighthouse Global is a Provably Observable Threat to The Top-Tier Establishment and Its Totalitarian Agenda and Why They Have Attacked Us in Order to Destroy. Click the + to expand and read the full explanation.

What happens when a powerful broadcaster refuses to face the truth about itself?

Following the BBC’s attacks on Lighthouse, we investigated its conduct and uncovered a consistent pattern: a refusal to verify its own reporting accurately or take responsibility for its misconduct. In this article, we examine the BBC’s modus operandi through the insights of renowned psychiatrist Dr M. Scott Peck, explore what this means for you as a citizen, and share practical questions to help you recognise and respond to manipulative, tyrannical and unaccountable institutions.

But this raises some important questions:

  • Why are the BBC and many of those who work within it so arrogant in their conduct?
  • Why do they so rarely acknowledge profound, systemic wrongdoing?
  • Why do they continue to behave as though they are beyond serious scrutiny, correction and accountability?
  • How can you recognise the spirit of evil operating through an institution?

The answer can be summed up in two words:

MILITANT IGNORANCE

M. Scott Peck described evil as “militant ignorance”—not mere unknowing, but an active, aggressive refusal to face truth, guilt and accountability. When confronted with evidence and consequences, militant ignorance still chooses the lie.

And it does not do so quietly.

Militant ignorance fights.

It attacks whatever threatens its preferred image. It suppresses evidence, vilifies challengers and protects the falsehood because honest self-examination would expose what it has become.

It is a committed refusal to see oneself truthfully—whatever the cost to others.

On 30th March, it was announced that long-term BBC Radio DJ Scott Mills had been dismissed following allegations concerning his personal conduct. Subsequent reporting stated that a historical police investigation involved allegations of serious sexual offences against a boy who was under 16. That investigation was closed in 2019 after the Crown Prosecution Service found insufficient evidence to bring charges.

This is the latest known case to raise grave questions against the backdrop of the BBC’s long history of sexual-abuse allegations, proven offences and institutional failures—stretching back through Jimmy Savile and beyond. We will be detailing much more about the BBC Savile Syndrome, including other documented cases and the diseased institutional culture that allowed abuse, concealment and denial to persist.

What do the BBC do instead of conducting deep, uncompromising investigations into themselves?

They deflect onto their targets. They abscond from responsibility. They vilify small, purpose-built community groups such as Lighthouse Global and individuals such as Tommy Robinson and Sir Cliff Richard.

Mainstream media attacks can destroy lives, reputations, finances, safety and health. Some people have even taken their own lives amid the unbearable consequences of public vilification.

Instead of taking responsibility with humility, the BBC protects its image of respectability—using denial, omission and deflection whenever necessary to preserve that image. It cannot tolerate genuine introspection, so it runs from inner truth by claiming moral superiority over others.

This is not simply “getting it wrong.”

It is defending the wrong as though its life depended upon it—because, to the false institutional identity it has created, it does.

The BBC’s Institutionalised Militant Ignorance

This is why the BBC cannot simply be trusted as an impartial, unbiased and fair broadcaster serving the public interest. The fully evidenced reality is that it has:

Then comes the most damning question:

If the BBC are truly confident that they are telling the truth, why do they fear scrutiny?

Why resist evidence?

Why avoid open debate?

Why deny those they accuse a full and comprehensive right to reply?

Militant ignorance does not merely want to persuade.

It wants to dominate.

And when challenged, it does what it always does:

It projects.

It calls the truthful “dangerous.”

It calls the reformer “extremist.”

It calls the exposer “harasser.”

It calls the whistleblower “the problem.”

For three years, Lighthouse has sought a full and comprehensive right to reply to the BBC’s false and malicious allegations in A Very British Cult. The BBC have now made clear that they will not grant it. This is not the conduct of an institution confident in its evidence. It is the conduct of an institution protecting a narrative from the evidence that could destroy it.

All the while, it acts as a henchman for the top-tier Establishment—the home and protector of such evil.

The Cost of Militant Ignorance to Citizens

If militant ignorance is real, then it is not merely “their problem.”

It becomes a public danger.

So ask yourself:

  • How many lives have been damaged because accusations were accepted without verification?
  • How many reputations have been assassinated because a convenient narrative was easier than the truth?
  • How many citizens have been trained to outsource discernment to so-called “trusted institutions”?
  • How many people are now afraid to speak, investigate or disagree because they know the mob may be fed a manufactured story about them?

And here is the most uncomfortable question:

  • If you were presented with hard evidence that an institution—or someone close to you whom you trusted—was lying, would you genuinely want to know?

Or would you prefer not to look?

Militant ignorance is not confined to “them.”

It is a temptation within all of us: the temptation to defend our preferred story, protect our pride and reject whatever truth demands repentance.

But militant ignorance is ultimately suicidal. It destroys conscience, judgement, relationships and institutions from within. It convinces people that refusing truth will protect them, when that very refusal guarantees their downfall.

And that is the final warning:

Those who remain militantly ignorant will meet the consequences of the truth they refused to face.

The only question is whether they will repent before their downfall…

Or insist on being dragged into it.

There is no escaping the truth.
Militant ignorance just makes it far, far worse when the truth catches up as it will for The BBC. As soon as The BBC started lying and trying to cover up those lies, then it was headed for disaster, just like anyone else who does so is. The only way out is to actually accept responsibility, say sorry and repent.

Militant ignorance is a really good term to help to explain evil. What they have done is beyond simply ignorance, it is weaponised, it is dangerous. That is the best case scenario. The worst is that they are doing their wicked sinful deeds deliberately

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the way of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of Yahweh, And in His law he meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not rise in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For Yahweh knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬-‭6‬

This is a chilling warning to anyone who thinks they can play with reality. The points at the end of this update are clear, no one who wields militant ignorance, ever gets away with it. The BBC truly epitomise this state of wilful hatred of the truth that does not work in their “favour”. But to attack and abuse members of the public, ordinary people, in order to hide their own abuses? It’s vile and as you say, repugnant! People like Jeffrey Leigh-Jones and Richard Thomas thought they would be secure on the ship that is the BBC, not realising it’s sinking fast by the day. They chose to attack the truth, not realising that there’s only going to ever be one winner in that fight. I am saying this mournfully, because as you say, militant ignorance tempts us all and I have in the past tried to use it to ignore the truth of those abusers and liars around me. I thank God I can see more clearly now, knowing that I have so much more to see and unlearn. Praise our God. Thank you for this special update. God bless and heal you all.

Why are the BBC and many of those who work within it so arrogant in their conduct? Why do they continue to behave as though they are beyond serious scrutiny, correction and accountability? Questions that so many people, especially in the UK, will no doubt have once asked themselves, or be asking themselves at some point and the answer is right there. Militant ignorance describes their attitude perfectly. I am sure that being a Government propaganda machine funded by forcibly taxing the public — rather than having to win trust and audience by merit — helps fuel their hubris and militant ignorance even further too. The point about scrutiny is also so on target too! I think that anyone who runs from and avoids scrutiny — especially when they are the accuser — for an extended period of time is almost a surefire indicator that they’re lying through their teeth!

This article really challenged me because the idea of ‘militant ignorance’ gives language to something I have sensed but never been able to articulate so clearly. I found it both sobering and compelling, reminding me that truth, humility and accountability are inseparable. Thank you for presenting such a thought provoking perspective that encourages genuine self examination as well as careful scrutiny of powerful institutions.

M. Scott Peck’s description of evil as “militant ignorance” captures this issue very well. It is not simply a matter of people making mistakes, but of actively resisting truth, deflecting accountability, and protecting established power structures. That pattern is increasingly evident in the BBC’s reporting and conduct.

What makes this especially concerning is that the problem is organisational rather than individual. When a lack of accountability, and repeated scandals continue over many years, it raises serious questions about the culture and systems that allow them to persist. Real reform requires an honest willingness to confront the truth, and too often that willingness is absent.

For Christians, this is why standing together in Christ and remaining committed to truth is so important. Our children deserve to grow up with truthful education that helps them develop their God given potential.

The number of BBC figures who have faced allegations or convictions for abuse, alongside the repeated examples of inaccurate or misleading reporting shows that these are not isolated incidents. They point to deeper systemic problems.

The term militant ignorance is especially powerful and convicting. The word militant is so strong and accurately describes the type of ignorance it is. I also appreciated the point at the end that if they, we, or any one of us refuses to acknowledge our wrongdoing and repent, it ultimately leads to our downfall.

Thank you.

As someone who has spoken to a number of BBC employees I certainly concur with their militant ignorance. There is a refusal to see that they work for an organisation that has a consistent history where its talent are continually abusing their power. They say that the BBC introduced safeguards after Savile but the same abuses happen time and time again.

Holding from the truth is more painful than excepting the truth. Truth will always catch up with us in the end, but accepting the truth makes it less painful than not. The BBC cover up their lies with malicious accusations, they make themselves out to be the publics defenders, when in reality, all they are looking out for and defending is themselves…

Militant ignorance…wow, this describes exactly to a T what we have been up against. It still boggles the mind as to why they continue to keep up their pretence when we are producing not only thorough but extensive evidence to back ourselves up. The term is accurate, these people have caused significant harm through their aggressive refusal to face truth. THEY themselves are a group of concern!

I have been blown away by the way that the BBC has doubled-down when it comes to A Very British Cult. The slanderous lies are completely provable, yet it won’t accept the truth and take responsibility. Militant ignorance is at the root of this…
