In 2018, while applying for a job as a Moscow stringer 1 with Coda Story, Marianna Spring falsely claimed on her résumé that she had “worked alongside BBC correspondent Sarah Rainsford” covering the 2018 World Cup in Russia.2 3 4
The Truth: When Natalia Antelava (Coda Story’s editor-in-chief and former BBC journalist) checked the claim with Sarah Rainsford, Rainsford revealed that she had only met Marianna Spring in social situations—they had never worked together.5
Marianna Spring later apologised for what she called an “awful misjudgement.”6
The Hypocrisy:
The BBC’s first disinformation specialist began her career with disinformation about her own experience.
The person hired to fight “fake news” started by creating fake credentials.

- Investigates “conspiracy theories” while working for an institution whose actual conspiracies keep being proven true
- Fact-checks others while her own fact-checking service makes repeated sourcing errors
She is the institutional embodiment of BBC hypocrisy. No wonder they hired her.

- How can the BBC and its staff criticise members of Lighthouse Global — including Paul S. Waugh — along with figures like Donald Trump and the US Government, when you do so using provable lies, while your own characters and competencies are provably and evidentially far inferior to theirs?
- How necessary do you believe it is for the BBC and BBC Verify to be verified by citizens in addition to media regulators? And why?

In typical BBC fashion, she is trying to hide, but we will not let her.
The Media Coverage of Spring’s CV Lie
When Spring’s CV fabrication was exposed in 2023, multiple outlets covered the story:

Wow, this could almost be comedy if it wasn’t such as serious issue and so ironic. You literally can’t make this up. I bet this journalist would be so morally high and mighty when it comes to the wrong doing or potential wrong doing of others but would never look at her own or inside the BBC. I can see that’s she well trained in the BBC MO of lie, silence, move on and repeat.
“awful misjudgement”… uh huh… As you say, this is the broader pattern! A weak, tepid, pseudo apology that has zero sincerity or integrity. Then brushed under the carpet, and carry on working in “Conspiracyland”. Yes, the BBC itself is a conspiracyland! Where fake news counts for truth and pseudo documentaries presented by pseudo journalists carry as investigations! Spot on, what a perfect fit she is for the BBC and BBC Verify. What a powerful exposé to show the very careful and deliberate lies told here and two-tier treatment of BBC’s own compared to everyone else. The side by side of the conspiracy theories is absolutely fascinating as well. I’m pretty sure that the BBC was dismissing concerns around Covid as conspiracies that have turned out to be true!! The BBC is a woke progressive propaganda engine, churning out radical leftist ideology in “impartial” packaging, and Marianna Spring herself just exposes how they have zero integrity. Because of her role, her title, she ought to have been fired before it ever hit the press. But instead they put her in their war on truth commercial! You just can’t make the heinous arrogance up
It is shocking to see the contradictory lives of those at the BBC compared with what it claims to stand for and uphold. This surely should have been investigated further. Perhaps many others had also applied for the lead position at BBC Verify — why did they choose to stay with her? This article helps to explain why.

One thing about a lie, it always gets revealed. The fact that Marianna lied on her CV, well, she is, as you’ve said, an ideal candidate for the BBC. What gets me, those who lie, like the BBC, are quick to report on someone in another organisation, but when it comes to those in the BBC, they cover it up or sweep it under the rug.
However, they are not going to get away with that anymore…
Marianna Spring has become the physical embodiment of the nonsense that the BBC has become.
If both Spring and The BBC acted with integrity, apologised and said sorry properly and then made actual changes to how they behave and conduct themselves then – the irony is – we would actually begin to trust them!
But trying to maintain the ‘whiter-than-white’ appearance is not going to work!
This is no coincidence, it fits the bigger picture of the BBC: lies, deception, and falsehoods. They probably wouldn’t employ anyone who doesn’t lie on their CV!
Marianna Spring certainly fits her role, as she knows how to create disinformation.
However, the public has had enough of the BBC. That’s why trust in the organisation is at an all-time low. It’s time for a class action against the BBC.
When I first heard about this, I almost literally couldn’t believe my ears. A BBC disinformation specialist who lied on her CV to advance her career!
What is tragic is that Marianna Spring has evidently not learnt her lesson and repented. She could actually use one of her biggest blunders to teach others what happens when we seek to lie and cheat to advance our careers.
Similarly it show us how we can spend all our time looking to scrutinise others ‘out there’, but we can be equally deceptive if we don’t subject ourselves to the same level of self-scrutiny.
I would love to see Marianna Spring scrutinise her employer to a level where she’s uncovering the major institutional bias present within the BBC walls.
We have the many instances of the BBC’s lies and falsification of the public record but there is a reason this is a repeating pattern in the BBC and marks its character as an organisation, one full of lies, deliberate deceit and brazen unrepentance. The BBC does what the BBC does because of who the BBC are, the many who work within it. Not that there can’t be some at the BBC who genuinely want to be impartial and honest, but those are evidently very few and far between. Thank you for this report and aligning these facts together to make such a necessary case and exposé.
There’s way too much misinformation coming from the BBC for it to be held in regard as truthful. On clearly established facts, it has demonstrated bias across the political spectrum and on public issues. Does it surprise anyone that someone deceptive in their engagement, such as Marianna Spring, is employed by the BBC? They appear to attract these types of people. They have also employed individuals who have later been exposed as paedophiles.
This is another sign that the BBC needs to be halted, fundamentally reformed, or done away with. Though the reason it exists is understood, namely as a tool of communication for the authorities of the land, that is also why there have been pushes for other content providers to prioritise BBC material ahead of others.

Marianna Spring fits in very well at the BBC…put on the face of apparent responsibility taking and then carry on like nothing happened, in this case, she enjoys an investigative role…which is hilarious in itself. The BBC are enablers, they enabled and covered up multiple incidents of sexual abuse involving many of their staff and so this is no surprise, the Disinformation correspondent, who herself doesn’t tell the truth….
O dear.. she hasn’t managed to shake this one.. The truth is catching up with the pedoBBC!
